Ashtanga Teacher Training

Trainers & Graduates

Ottavio Gesmundo and Naomi Brenkman-Gesmundo became certified Ashtanga yoga instructors in 2005 under the guidance of Maggie Verderame and Larry Schultz and immediately began leading classes at the It’s Yoga studio in Las Vegas. Naomi and Ottavio are Experienced Registered Yoga Teachers (E-RYT 200) through Yoga Alliance and have safely guided thousands of individuals through the Full Primary Series, Modified Primary (beginning Ashtanga), Second series Ashtanga, Rocket I, II, III and numerous Vinyasa based classes (with poses up to 2nd, 3rd & 4th series).

Naomi & Ottavio are honored to be leading the It’s Yoga 200 hour Ashtanga teacher training program in Las Vegas, Nevada and happy to continue the legacy of their teacher, Larry Schultz, the founder of It’s Yoga and the Rocket series.

Ashtanga is the foundation for all of their yoga classes, including Dragon Vinyasa, which is a system Ottavio & Naomi founded together that integrates Ashtanga Yoga with Tai Chi & Kempo Martial Arts. Naomi and Ottavio were also the first yoga ambassadors to represent the lululemon store inside the Fashion Show Mall in Las Vegas.

Naomi and Ottavio continue their yoga education through workshops and trainings with senior It's Yoga teacher/trainers Marie Hajjar Russel (Schultz) and various master yogis including David Williams, who is considered the man responsible for bringing Ashtanga to the US and was the first non-Indian to learn the entire Ashtanga program directly from Shri K. Pattabhi Jois.

Marie Hajjar Russel, It’s Yoga International Chair Senior Trainer

Marie met Larry in 2000 at a Rocket Workshop he led in Columbus, OH. Since that day, she knew he would be a major force in her life. In 2004, after a short stint in public policy, she travelled to San Francisco to participate in the It’s Yoga Teacher Training. As the story goes, she was “kidnapped” by Larry when the TT was complete and spent the next 7 years serving It’s Yoga as an instructor, studio manager, training director and partner to Larry. She has had the honor of sitting next to Larry in over 40 trainings, and each day lives in gratitude for the many gifts her marriage and practice with Larry has bestowed on her life. It is with this sense of love that she continues to share the gifts of It’s Yoga with the international community and travels the globe to practice and play with the It’s Yoga Family. She is based in Toledo, Ohio where she opened It’s Yoga Toledo in March of 2012.
